I've been paddling a Yare variant for a year now, hate the thought of having to paddle one of my older boats. Tippy? Very as I put a bit of deadrise in (10 degrees) and I stretched it (added an extra bit to make a "proper" bow) to 5 metres. I use it for multiday and day trips in all conditions - goes like a rocket, especially "down hill" i.e. surfs like crazy and the rudder does help.

I'm 6'1" and under 140 lb so weight rather than body length is really the more critical item.

It's going to take time to get "comfortable" with, personally I think the time and effort well worth it as you'll become a more proficient paddler. You should become one unit, you and the kayak, more so as the water starts to chop up.

A friend with an Arluk 1.8 thought my boat more stable!!!!!
