Yes he really did. The skeg is about 1/4in wide and the slop was made up for by a number of washers. So there are big gaps on either side.Consequently must flop around a bit. Now depending on your point of view, you do may want some slop to account for sand etc. not jamming the skeg, but 1/4in ea side is approaching a football field.
But I have not built any skegs yet. But when I do shortly, I'll leave about 1/16in clearance or less (most likely much less)betw the skeg sides and the boxes. A layer of card. If it gets jammed - my fault for not cleaning it once in awhile.
I'll back up those postings w/ some dwgs and further ideas in a while when I get back.
