I don't have the kayak & the rest of the building junk @ home anymore, so I cant measure it & answer your question. here's what I remember:

here's something to give you a sense of scale: the palm of my hand (when flat) is contained inside the portion of the skeg that exceeds the hull when it's fully extended. The skeg surface is ofcourse larger because it's a triangle & the palm of my hand isn't. but there isn't really a point in verbal description. go there again & measure. put a piece of paper on a skeg & outline it. take the paper home & remember you only copied the extended portion of the skeg, so the actual skeg "wing" will be larger. it will exceed your drawing by an inch or 2 @ its top.

considerations for skeg location: more towards the cocpit, so it wont jump out of the water when you're on a wave. more towards the stern, so it will have the strongest effect. the solution: compromise.

stick the stern of your boat in your shoulder & align your hand along the center line of the hull. position the trailing edge of the skeg @ your fingertips. hmm.... 2-3 feet. the man @ the kayak shop told me that.
