Since the boat is 23 1/2 wide, I'm not too concerned about losing 3/4 of an inch. What I did was rip some pine into 3/8 in strips just a little longer than the footbrace channel. I then chisled some recesses on the ends of each piece to accomodate the screw heads, so the whole assembly will now sit flush with the i/s hull. I plan on epoxying the channel to the wood strip, which is scored on the back, then epoxy the whole assembly to the hull. I am glassing the inside first, and will attach the braces while its still a little tacky. I did a dry fitting last night and it looked pretty good. The lost of width actually helps as far as foot room, since my toes are now positioned where there is a little more height. I think the loss would be bad if you had wide hips though. So, no holes, which was a goal.
