Hi Guys, & thanks;
Having never done this before, I had absolutely no idea how much to spread as a fill coat when the weave is essentially, but not quite filled. I guess you have to do it once to bracket the numbers. After 2 fill coats, I pondered just mixing a very small batch and touching up just the slightly low areas, pock-marks, and visible weave. 99% of any fill needed seems to be at the stems, where there are two layers of 6" and 4" wide tape, and they just need more TLC.
HOWEVER, my plan right now is to try again for a very thin coat over the whole hull. If you fellows can cover the whole hull with 3-5oz of epoxy, I can sure try again. I sanded the hull yet AGAIN today to see where I was in the filling process. It looks pretty darn flat, I'm sure many builders would leave it like this for later fine sanding and varnishing. But candidly (don't tell anyone else), I'm a bit anal retentive when it comes to finishing, so I am going to shoot for perfection in the fill out stage. The first oyster bed I slide over will tear my heart out, but at least I'll have a picture or two of a (hopefully) nice hull . . . 8-)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Spidey
