Order a back issue of the October 1998 Sea Kayaker magazine. In it there is an article that shows you how to build a 10 foot skin-on-frame Alaska recovery kayak. Back issues are about $6, and you need about 4 yards of canvas.I think some people have said they found canvas for about $5 per yard. You will need to seal the canvas with paint or varnish, or some exotic brain-killing compounds, so figure that cost in as well.
