There is a type of drill bit (the $%!# name escapes me, no not Forstner bits) that looks like a twist drill, but is ground differently. It has a centering point and outer cutting flutes that make perfect clean-cut holes in almost any material. I've used them on wood, metal, fiberglass, etc., and they work just fine. It you look in your local hardware store you'll see them - Whatever they're called . . . ;-)
