Thanks -- I found the threaded fitting thanks to Jack Martin's note about the removeable grilles (I believe this is the correct spelling for this kind of grille/grill...) You're right though -- there's only one on the passenger's side. I may rig up a cable or strap under the bumper or thru the grilles.

On the positive side, I went for a paddle today and hauled the kayak with only the 2 straps on the load bars. I was surprised that the kayak was rock solid with only those 2 straps.
