An acquaintance with two assistants was about to guide a group of kayakers across a narrow channel surrounded by miles of shallow water. The boat traffic was pretty busy, mostly 15-25mph fishing and sport boats. Although the crossing would have only been about 100yds and there appeared to be pretty big gaps in the traffic he decided to not risk managing a large group of 12 paddlers across it. Just a half minute after turning back to the shore over shallow flat water, three "muscle" boats came roaring down way over 40mph,then a few more ,some flying outside of the channel. Maybe they were inebriated, maybe not. Either way it would be like driving down the freeway at 65 and have LeMans race cars all flying around you.
