I'm in the form construction stage of my first kayak thinking about my first strip. I've come up with an idea to use plastic mirror clips used to mount mirrors to the wall. They come in a variety of depths and since you attach them with small screws seem a likely candidate to attach the strip strongly without using glue, hot or otherwise. You can preset the clips along the sheerline loosely and inset the strip and as you line it up perfectly you just tighten the screw at the station. I think this would give you a strongly held sheerstrip which you can work against without fear of movement.
