If traditional means doing it the way the natives did it, you might be out of luck. Firstly they killed seals and sea lions for their skins, used their intestines for weather gear and the wives had to chew the skins to make them soft. You could be more than half way home if your wife is agreeable to this.
Putz's method, while making an acceptable kayak for many people, it is a non-tradinional method depending on your definition of traditional. In the "building section" of this BBS there are many avenues to explore and it has a section on skin-on-frame kayaks as well. Spend some time with various links and you may find something you like.
