Masonite is just like paper w/ chalk thrown in - definitely a no go. So go for the doorskins or if really cheap - some of that ply wall panelling is 1/8in thick. It's real crap but maybe you could pick up some cheap.

I'm not serious here, but what if you actually stitched it up in masonite, glassed the heck out of the outside, and sunk it in the lake for a coupla weeks to turn the masonite into mush and scrape out?? Dumb, but maybe light! (maybe my head is a little light!!)
