Dale - I did essentially the same thing - taped some tissue paper to a sheet of standard printer paper and ink jet printed the image. I trimmed it off, slobbered some epoxy on the cedar, laid the image on it, then more epoxy over it. The glass went down next while the epoxy was still wet. As for a signature, nothing I tried (on scraps) worked - it all ran with the epoxy. What finally worked was to sign the sanded epoxy with a fine tipped Sharpie permanent marker. Varnish over it had no effect.
