Sounds interesting. Ross gave me an idea that he's looked at, somewhat similar, using wood to make a captive mount for the rails. I'm playing with a variation of the concept now. Position the rails along the hull, glue some wood strips along both sides of the rail that match the height of the bottom section - about 7/16". With T-nuts or inserts imbedded in these strips, you could then clamp the rail in place between the strips with some thin pieces of wood - or aluminum - that overlap onto the "lip" of the rail. A stop block glued in place at the forward end would keep the rail from sliding when you pushed on the pads. Now, I've just got to work out the details.
