: Hi! The recommendations I received regarding the painting of the kayak's was
: outstanding and very much appreciated. I'm once again turning to this
: forum for direction as to where to look for ideas to adapt the kayak I
: built with a sail and rudder approach. My friend's site has pictures of
: the kind of kayak the scouts and I built.

: I am perfectly happy to come up with my own ideas, I just don't know what
: kind of issues I should be considering for the design. Pefereable
: colaspable too.

: Thanks

Some ideas:

Make the sail an inverted triangle(like shown by didier plouiec? in sea kayaker a few yrs ago). Attach w/ universal jt to front bulkhead. Or put a sleeve in front bulkhead for conventional mast.2 Stays in first case to rear bulkhead, say 1 to front of yak on one side(to the wd). The mast pole(s) should be no longer than the cockpit to fit in when not wanted or when stowing.

For the rudder, just extend the ply say 4" at the back on ea side and you have a pocket for the paddle to fit in. Then just use it similar to a conventional sailboat rudder except that it just lifts out (i.e. you will be using the 'space' betw the wood sides w/ 2 little pces extending farther back so there actually now is a space). This may be awkward w/ a regular yak paddle unfaired, so use your small backup. Keeps it minimal.
