I checked the catalog of a theatrical supply house ( www.mainstage.com) and confirmed what I had suspected. those suckers are expensive. they list breakaway bottles at $18.45 EACH ! You get your choice of shape ( beer, wine, whiskey) and color (clear, green and amber) but they want $93 for a half dozen, and I've seen pictures of some boats that were built for less.

For a group of kids, water balloons seem like a good idea. Putting carbonated soda into them sounds like someone making a time bomb, though. That carbonation will keep inflating the balloon as the balloon gets warmer, until the balloon breaks.
