Dave,

I used biaxial on the inside of a stripper. On selected areas of the deck, I did a normal hand lay-up and was not too happy with the result. The stuff was difficult to wet out and the non-woven fibers tended to bunch up leaving large gaps between bundles and a very rough finish. I ended up covering the wet lay-up with a poly sheet and compacting the laminate with a squeegee. The poly peeled right off after the epoxy cured. The result was OK, but resin rich, and still needed a heavy fill coat.

On the hull, I vacuum bagged the whole thing. The result was much better, but still had some of the same drawbacks - rough finish, heavy fill coat.

For an all glass boat, biaxials might be great, but from what I have seen, they should be part of a laminate; a single layer test panel I did had lots of space between the fiber bundles.
