FWIW, I went to the garden shop recently and picked up a couple of garden kneeling pads. I intend to hot glue these to a board which I will support on 2 parallel 1x2 slats. I plan to use velco strips to attach the padded board to the 1x2's. This gives me the opportunity to adjust my seat size without permanent mounting until I am comfortable with my selection.
My only concern is that this put's the bottom of my butt about 1 1/2 inches above the bottom of the boat. I don't know if this is enough to affect the center of gravity significantly.
Good Luck!
: On that somewhat musical note, (I'm in a punny mood tonight), I have a
: question regarding seat size. In Nick's book he suggests carving the seat
: from a piece of 14 X 16 foam, and Rob Mack's instructions give 20 X 20 as
: the size to start with. Being somewhat large, 5'11" 230# I may need a
: larger seat than Nick would use, but being stingy I would like to waste as
: little of the foam as possible. So, what experience have you guys had? Is
: Nicks' size minimal or is it big enough for most? Has anyone used Rob
: Mack's instructions and found it to be the ideal size, or larger than
: necessary? Waddya think, Guys??
