have you looked at Eric Schades mergansers? I am currently building the 16.5 ft by 21" version with my SO. Back deck is very low and front deck is low too except right in front of the cockpit. check them out at shearwater boats www.shearwater-kayaks.com

there is a 17x22, 17x23 and 18 by 22 versions also. one for every size paddler.

i can measure the height at various points if you want.

let me know where you want the measurements made.
