Depends what you mean by "failure". Many (likely, most) small cockpit VCP Pintails and similar boats experience multiple hairline cracks in the deck through the gel coat adjacent to the aft bulkhead. With "ocean cockpit" boats (16" by 20" cockpit rims), you have to sit on the aft deck and slide into the boat straight legged, putting a lot of strain on the after deck. With time and an increasing number of holes in the deck for "improvements", I do get a small amount of water in the aft compartment after a day of playing, and some could come from stress riser cracks in the skin, but, after nine years in the boat, it's negligible.
