Hi Brian;
I warned people about using cheap duct tape! To get the adhesive off (I also started with a roll of cheap tape that I promptly threw away) you might try rubbing it with alcohol on a rag and then rolling it off with your thumb. It worked for me.
I got "Tuck" brand at Sam's warehouse club, 3 rolls (180 yards) for $6. The next time I went they had 4 rolls of what looked like the same stuff but with a different brand name (Tesa) for $9. You can also get the same stuff usually at Walmart, but it's a bit more expensive - But still cheaper than anywhere else I've seen. This stuff does not leave any adhesive behind.
The duct tape is nice cuz it stretches a bit, I prefer it for clamping over the reinforced packing tape. I use the packing tape when I have to exert downward pressure on a joint, using a small wood block to concentrate the pressure, and then pulling the tape hard over the block. It doesn't stretch like duct tape and works better for this use.
Hope this helps, Best Regards, Spidey
