: I am trying to build this boat from the offset table plans given in "The
: Wooden Boat" and it shows the scarfs being cut after the hull
: patterns are fully cut out. It seems therefore, that I should add a
: 1.25" length (8:1 for 4mm) to the panel to account for these joints.
: How do I add this length without throwing off the fairness of the curves
: or should the panels be drawn "after" the scarfs joints are
: made. Thanks for any help on this matter. Bailey--
: if you want to scarf 1st and then later layout the panels it will probably mean you will need two 4mm panels instead of one. I laid out the panels on cardboard and then used those to get all of the panels out of one 4mm sheet. then before you glue up the scarfs measure each panel again to be sure you can get a fair curve out of it when you plane the final shape. as long as the scarf area is a little wider than the curve section you can plane it down after scarfing. Also I used 1/4 luan for the bottom panel and bulkheads instead of 6mm. the bottom panel is virtually flat in final shape. good luck. addison
