: Has anyone tried using metal skid plates?
A lot of the 'beaches' I land at have barnacle-encrusted rocks, so I installed a brass piece, 3/8" wide by about 2' long, at the rear of my keel, coming about 4" up the stern. This allows me to drag the boat a bit, say to turn it around, rather than carry it. I did it over the winter, so it's been in place all this year. So far, so good.
