: Hi - My husband just finished building my a wonderful kayak, Pygmy's Arctic
: Tern. Today we went out and much to my distress, my legs and feet were
: falling asleep/pins and needles, etc. in no time.Toni

Toni- My wife is having a similar problem with her CD Solstice. It has a fiberglass seat and the front edge of the seat is pushing into the back of her leg. I had her paddle my Chesapeake 16 this weekend with the Happy Bottom seat. Her legs lasted 20 min instead of the usual 5 to 10 min (I guess that's progress). Unfortunately the back rest didn't give her enough support and her back hurt more than her legs. This week we'll put in some thigh supports in the Solstice using 3/4" minicell foam. If that doesn't fix the problem, we'll take out the fiberglass seat, put in the Happy Bottom seat, reinstall the Solstice's back rest, and reinstall the thigh support. As an aside... my wife bought her Solstice mid summer last year and began having problems with her legs from the very beginning. I also had problems with my legs going to sleep, but the problem seemed to go away as I got more experience in my boat. That has not happened with my wife even though she has been on some reasonably long paddles (1-2 hr). Most of the time we paddle on protected waters so she can flex her legs until the feeling comes back, but the situation is getting to be a real concern. A couple weekends ago we paddled some choppy waters from Manhattan to the Statue of Liberty in light winds. My wife had to use her rudder to control direction, but couldn't feel where her feet were and couldn't take a break to get feeling back into her legs. What has been referred to as the so called "numb butt syndrome" can be a safety issue. It's been our experience that the problem will not go away on its own. WesT
