: As the son of a son of a sailor (commercial fishermen, not pleasure boaters unfortunately!) I was told this little ditty by my Dad as I stood at the tiller on the stern of his troller working the Straits of Georgia in the Pacific NW: "If two lights you see ahead, port your helm and show your red." Contrary of course to those using wheels to steer, since pushing a tiller to the left (port) makes the boat go to the right (starboard), thus showing the red port light to oncoming craft. I just thought I'd toss this tidbit in the stew! 8)
