: We just bought a new house and I am looking for a tried and true design for a
: structure that will be free standing and hold 3-4 canoes/kayaks in their
: horizontal position.. Our space restrictions require that these boats be
: one above the other and not beside one another..

: Any suggestions as to design, materials or construction tips would be
: appreciated..

: Thanks and looking forward to some replies as this is the first time that i
: have visited this site..

most minimal, cheapest and simplest is to hang them. Like a ladder w/ the verticals (separated by abt 22 in) being 1.5 or 2 in webbin and the horizontals being say 2x2 (use detail a in the 'a la carte' post last fall.) Separated by abt 8 ft ( 1/2 length). (If vertical support for the joist is req'd, just jam in a vert 8' 2x4 close to or with one of the verts.) If no supp't req'd - easy to vaccuum or sweep below.

A real minimal one is to use just one vertical w/ a loop of webbing for each yak, one for each end. Stacked on their sside you couldb prob get a bunch on the other side of the verticals too.

I guess yu gotta build a few more.
