It is a fact that there are dishonest people in the world and we have to live with it. sorry about your loss, check with your insurance agent, when I bought my first kayaks, I inquired about insuring them and my agent told me that they were covered under my homeowner's policy, never had a problem so I don't know anything about claims, as far as value of a strip-built kayak..I would estimate about $5K, check to see what one would cost you to have built..take care, rmd
