: Hey! It is a fact that there are dishonest people in the world and we have to
: live with it. sorry about your loss, check with your insurance agent, when
: I bought my first kayaks, I inquired about insuring them and my agent told
: me that they were covered under my homeowner's policy, never had a problem
: so I don't know anything about claims, as far as value of a strip-built
: kayak..I would estimate about $5K, check to see what one would cost you to

Will your homeowners cover the craft when It is on your vehicle at a resturant near a lake several miles from home? Here in California, for our homeowners to cover it, it has to be in the garage or in the back yard and secured for the coverage to apply. I tried to get a couple of vehicles covered for theft only that way, and if they were even on the driveway or at the curb, the homeowners wouldn't cover them. Maybe each co. has it's own ideas of security, and out here in California, theft is a real problem, so, that's the way they treat the situation here. Would be a good idea to check.

Also, as a precaution, I would have several detailed photos of the boat, to show the detail and overall appearance for adjusters to figure from. Chances are they haven't seen too many and wouldn't have a clue as to value. Also, you could use price lists from the dealers to give estimates, and with pictures of the commercially built boat and pictures of yours, they can make a true estimate and You'd have a basis for arguement, when they tried to do their thing to you. Hope that is of value. :)
