: An old cabinent maker told me to use Linseed Oil and Powdered Pumice to
: polish Varnish. It worked fairly well. You can control the amount of cut
: by the amount of the pumice you use. Pumice was a little hard to find
: though, found it at a good paint store. It comes in a little cardboard
: milk like carton. Travis
Hi Travis
Yeh, I've also used the same technique, and used Speedstone, or rottenstone, and about any light oil will work. There are commercially made oils for rubbing finishes, but, I just use a good light, 10 weight and the rottenstone. You can polish to a nice satin finish or take it to mirror type finish. Just keep it wet with the oil.
Personally, I would think it easier to use an Auto polish with the jewelers rouge in the blend. A bit finer and easier to use. A little foam pad cut to curve on your ROS ( use spray adhesive on old sandpaper disk ) and it will be like waxing your car, only quicker. I don't recall the brand names as around here, a fellow named "Blackie" Gijian(?) makes it himself. About $20 for 1 1/2 ltr. bottle. Ian could probable help with name brands. The local bike shops or other paint shops use it to polish up some of the wild paint jobs after using the 2-part poly clear-coats. Looks like water on the surface.
