hey! if you're going to widen the boat, you might also consider adding some length, we own a 20' plastic double that is 32" wide that is more than adequate for large paddlers, later rmd
: I have been kayaking for 5 years now and have built both stitch and strip
: boats. My problem is designing a two person kayak for my wife and I now
: that she wants to join me.The catch...she weighs 350#,and I 170#.The
: thought is to copy the Perception Sanibel at 15 feet and increase the
: width to 32 inches. The other change is to move the open cockpit foward 18
: inches to put the cg in the center of the kayak. The construction would be
: 1/4 inch stitch. With me so far to the front would there be problems with
: handling?I will install a rudder.Are there problems I am overlooking?I
: have never paddled a double or a large kayak.I build them only as wide as
: me and light for speed.Any insight would help as the wood dust will fly on
: the 24th.thanks....phil
