Hey Ian, As a part-time FG/KV/CF boat repairer, I have to agree with you, but I think what Gini also said about "wooden kayaks may be more easily repaired...because they are owner-built" says a lot. You and I know how to fix composite boats, but the average composite boat-buyer hasn't clue one. They shell out $1800 for a sleek new kayak, and then seek out some dummy like me who will gladly take their money for a simple repair.

The person who builds their own kayak already knows how to shape wood, mix resins and apply fiberglass, so the repair is a simple extension of the building process.

Perhaps its a function of the way a person comes about obtaining the kayak that determines it's repairability. Or, more probably, just a glimpse at the type of personality that is attracted to building one's own boat versus the type of person who would rather earn the money some other way and buy a boat.
