I wondered why many posters assumed I had so much epoxy on my deck that it was time to stop applying, while I thought I had so little I needed more. Of course, I can see my deck and y'all cannot. I faired about 3/4 of my deck this evening, and with little effort was kissing the glass here and there again. Another coat is inevitable. Then it dawned on me:
Ding-All Ultra Clear Epoxy is also ultra thin. It wets glass like magic, but it is very thin for fill coats. Other companies offer different hardeners for use under different conditions, Ding-All comes one way only - Thin. I was pondering my next coat (and assuming the fisheye problem has been banished), and imagining sanding it flat and being back exactly where I started - An endless cycle. The coats end up so extremely thin, I've essentially got nothing to sand. If I mix and apply more, It simply runs onto the dropcloth.
I think I see why Florida surfboard mfrs. cover this stuff with polyester resin instead of varnish - It's the only way to get a buildup above the cloth! I may develop enough of a technique to use it throughout the epoxy cycle, but at 90F+ every day I don't expect it to become more viscous any time soon . . .
Hope this is of some value to someone, Spidey
