George Roberts is correct in his post. Most people have no business designing and building there own white water helmet. Let’s assume, for the moment that you have the helmet design knowledge and the skills with construction to do build a helmet. By the time you built enough test units and paid that cost of testing to ensure that your design is effective, you could buy the most expensive helmet on the market and have it custom painted to your desire. It simply is not worth it. Go to a sporting goods supply store and get the cheapest rock-climbing helmet they have. You will have bought a far better helmet than you can build.
