I tried paddling a Tred Avon double just to see if I could. It blew around way too much to be able to control it. Perhaps with weight equal to the front person it would work. I do some trout fishing in a Cape Charles, it takes careful setup. Kind of a trick to handle paddle, pole, net, and tackle with only two hands. I made a little platform that attaches to the foredeck bungies, with a little tackle box and a rod holder on it.

: Howdy! I also fish the gulf coast in the corpus christi area, a lot of folks
: use the open tops but you give up a lot of speed, I have found fishing out
: of a double gives you the extra space along with speed, hope this helps,
: later rmd
