: foam brushes was dismal and I switched to a badger brush which is more
: rigid and allows you to spread the varnish more thinly than the foam
: brushes. It's a pain to clean, though, and I recently gave the foam
: brushes another shot. I found that the wooden-handled ones are much better
: than the ones with the plastic handle. I've had much better luck with them
: for varnishing. But I still have to thin the Flagship to 15-20%.

Have you (or anyone else) tried those flat painting pads? I'm talking about the ones designed for cutting in to a corner. Being of a skeptical nature, when I first saw them a number of years ago, my first reaction was "yeah, right" or similar. But I decided to try one for regular painting and was amazed with the quality of finish they produced when using regular paint (some of which was fairly thick).

I haven't got to the varnish stage yet, but I was thinking of trying the pads o some scrap. Of course I have not even purchased varnish yet, so I can't do any testing.

I wonder if these would work with varnish?
