Might try dynel instead, I think it has equal or greater abrasion resistance, AND it sands easier than Kevlar (which really sucks to sand/repair) Also Kevlar is very UV sensitive, I don't think dynel is. Dynel will soak up the resin and be slightly white. More layers of glass are another option, as are brass strips w or w/o the added layers
I would also put it on top of your glass, resin fill coats will just add weight between the two layers and not be as as strong.
