I’m finishing up my first canoe that I built from a books offsets. Lesson learned. Now I’m building two canoes and a Kayak from purchased plans. What a difference these plans make. You may also want to look into purchasing the forms in a ready to assemble fashion. This is a time and headache saver. It might also be a money saver if you don’t have the tools to make the forms. I also suggest checking out the many strip built kayak and canoe sights on the web. The Guillemot is a beautiful boat, but has some tricky angles. I suggest looking for a boat with simpler lines such as the Great Auk. Good luck in your web surfing.

: I am planning on building my first wood-strip kayak this summer and am
: wondering what plans I should follow. Should I purchase plans from a kayak
: manufactuer? If so, what boat? I am 6'1", 170lbs, looking for a well
: handeling sea kayak. I was thinking of a 17 foot boat... what do you
: think? Any boats you reccomend?
