: I am buiding a Chesapeake 17. I would like to finish it bright and have been
: reading varnishing tips for the past few months. I have not read anything
: much on people spraying the varnish. A friend of mine runs a high-end
: custom furniture shop. He has a spraying booth that is actually big enough
: to take my boat(!) and he has all the spraying equipment and a lot of
: experience with finishing. What have been your experiences with this
: method of application? Particulars I would be interested in include
: dilluting, number of coats, surface prep before initial spray and between
: coats etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Brent,

If your friend has all this equipment get him to spray your boat with a polyurethane clearcoat. The finish is much more durable and protects the kayak much better. Being in the furniture business he should be well versed in the use of polyurethanes.

Good luck,

Ian
