Hi Jay;

First of all, I'll point out again that I lifted this idea from Vaclav, who shows it on his site at Ocean Kayak. I hope to make some improvements to the implementation the next time around, but I can't take credit for the concept.

Before I remove the lamination from the deck, I'm going to attempt trimming the bottom of the lamination with a hand held router and a laminate bit. That will trim both the original plywood and the glass at the same time. After the layup is removed from the deck, I was going to try to trim around the outside edge with my bandsaw first, followed by the belt sander. If that proves difficult, then I will one-by-one go through my tools to see what works!

I too like the idea of a bit of material contrast on the deck, but I've yet to figure exactly how I will get the color I want on the coaming. I need to develop a light beige color for it to come out like I was planning. I'm starting to seriously consider powdering some common kid's chalk . . .
