I am building a Chesapeake 17LT in what used to be my car's side of the garage. With 0.5 and a 2.5 year-old kids the project is slow - like trying to run in chest deep water. So, since the car was evicted I need to scrape the windows and clear snow in the winter. Most of the work has been done on sling-style sawhorses. The inital layout and panel glue-up was done on 2 pieces of lauan taped end to end on the floor beneath the hull. These were originally laid to protect the floor from epoxy drips, but they also help to ease the stress of standing on concrete and save the rare dropped chisel. Ive never really needed more than one extra plug, a radio, some fluorecent lights, a bench for the epoxy and tools, and a RO sander. A vacuum cleaner is handy.
One thing that would really improve the process is the ability to hold the boat FIRMLY in any position (hull up, down, or tilted). The slings allow any orientation, but the boat swings fore and aft whenever you plane or scrape. This is annoying. A long bench could work but would limit the orientation flexibility. Any ideas?
