: I would like to know what others are doing for shop space. What works, what
: doesn't, wish lists, etc. How necessary is compressed air, vacuum systems,
: custom benches or cool fixtures to hold something just right. You get the
: idea. My basement shop is set up better than my garage shop. In the basement I got about seven base cabinets that were being thrown out during a hospital remodeling project. What is nice is that I have about 25' of counter top most of it along two walls. I made a spot so that I can sit and work on small projects.
I put in lots of outlets and they are spaced every 4' on multiple 20 amp circuits that are dedicated only to the shop.
For a shop you really all you need is a place to set your stuff down on so that you can find it when you need it.
For tools:
For cut the forms I used my scroll saw and than polished up the edges a little with a surform, the only other tool I used for the strongback and the forms was my cordless drill to assemble everything.
The strips were cut at my father-in-laws house on his table saw.
For stripping I mostly use small handheld tools, I use my block plane a lot and a sand paper block in order to get my strips to fit together (no bead and cove here). A small hand saw to cut the strips to length and for any scarf jointing, a stapler with staples for stapled construction and a lot masking tape for sapleless construction. For final sanding I use a 1/4 sheet palm sander, I may break down and get a ROS, well we'll see.
So for tools, I used what any new homeowner may have or tools that are mostly inexpensive to buy or barrow. The only other things I use is a pencil all the time, and a tape measure mostly for the construction of the strongback.
The two tools I use most are my pencil and my block plane.
