Don't know abt longevity, but here's what I've done.

cut cord 3 in long, mark end, put 1st inch in vice, pull totally taught and wrap the good side around something a few in away to keep taught(clamp on the bench), wrap good side of cord w/ a couple rounds of elec tape to 1/2in from the line. Saturate the cord to the line and past w/ thin cyanoacrylate, let set up. Release tension and cut to the line. You now have a composite thin cord stop, slightly narrower than the diam of the orig cord and clamping the end big time.

Haven't tried, but obviously could use thinned(hted?) epoxy.

Looks good, but don't know abt the long haul, Maybe wrap w/ 20# line also before wetout - still end up narrower than the orig.
