Ted,
I agree with prior post. Easiest and possibly cheapest would be to find a used steel lumber rack to fit your truck. My neighbor made one out of 2x4 lumber, looks like the Clampets came to town, but we don't care, because we're not in town! He had to cut the 4 corner posts (uprights) narrow enough where they drop into the pickup bed, then cut cross pieces tying the corner posts together with 3/8x4inch lag bolts. Then braced them by cutting a 45 degree angle on both ends of some 1 foot 2x4's used some 1/4 inch leg bolts to fasten them beneath the cross pieces to the (4) corner uprights. Then he tied the front and back posts together with another 2x4 on each side by just running the inside and past the corner uprights and bolting them clear through together Then he primered the rack and glued some carpet on the cross pieces, fastened some tiedown hooks and has been working fine for 6 or 7 years. Be sure to seal all the ends (atleast) of the boards with hot wax or primer and pre-drill the holes before installing lag bolts.
Good Luck and best regards. David Rice
