Brilliant idea Ken! I'm currently laying up the hull of a Guillemot Expedition and have been looking into using some sort of unseen fastening system for the planned flush deck hatches. I've considered a previously mentioned under-hatch bungee system, but the thought of monkeying around with the straps (under tension) every time I wanted to dig out my Oreos seems aukward and doesn't appeal to me. Metal in a kayak may have the purists upset, but six or eight small magnets set into the hatch recess, with a finger notch may be just the ticket. I think I'll try this unless anyone has any reasons why it would be a bad idea.
