You might want to wait until you get the book to order your wood. There is a section in one of the appendicies that outlines how you can estimate the amount of wood you will need. I believe from memory that you take the surface area of your kayak and divide by the width of strips that you are using. I think that will give you the total number of linear inches that you will need. Divide by 12 to get your linear feet, then divide by the length of strips that you will be using. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the book spells it out for you.

: I ordered the plans for the Guillemot "L" and the kayak making
: book. Anyone make this boat yet? Also, I called around and found a source
: for clear cedar. I found a source in Indianapolis selling 1" x
: 4" for $1.55 per linear foot (probably the actual size is 3/4" x
: 3 1/2"). Is that a reasonable price? They said they had lengths up to
: 16 foot long. Anyone have an estimate on how many pieces of those strips I
: should purchase to start with?

: Now I have to wait for my plans and book to come. Guess I'll go out and
: paddle my Pungo. The creeks are up and lots of good places to go now.
