: I ordered the plans for the Guillemot "L" and the kayak making
: book. Anyone make this boat yet? Also, I called around and found a source
: for clear cedar. I found a source in Indianapolis selling 1" x
: 4" for $1.55 per linear foot (probably the actual size is 3/4" x
: 3 1/2"). Is that a reasonable price? They said they had lengths up to
: 16 foot long. Anyone have an estimate on how many pieces of those strips I
: should purchase to start with?
: Now I have to wait for my plans and book to come. Guess I'll go out and
: paddle my Pungo. The creeks are up and lots of good places to go now.

John: The price isn't out of line, but what you will get will probably be 11/16" thick and vertical grain. Ideally you would want 3/4" and flat grained boards so the strips will be vertical grain. The smaller size isn't too big a deal, but the grain orientation is fairly important.
A Great Auk uses about 1200 Lf of 1/4" x 3/4" cedar strips if that helps you.
