Spidey,
I never heard of using a rag before. Then again, I'm new to this varnishing thing, so there's a lot I haven't heard of - yet.
Can you provide more details on the application procedure? I'm guessing it's similar to applying stain with a rag - but varnish is so much thicker.
Also, are there special types of rags that must be used, so as not to leave lint behind?
As you may have guessed by now, I encountered a number of sags and runs when I tried to brush the varnish on my boat - so alternatives are being considered.
