and there are lots of other ways to break a boat. I just had a picture of bent hinges, or hinges attached to a splintered lid or deck, and it does not close, and taking on water.

Field repairs are possible of course, you are maye 90% of the way done if you thought it through already and have what you need or know how to get it when you need it...

I like the DZUS fastener, but have only so far found metal ones with just the wire underside, want plastic ones, and will call the distributor one day...

My lid is screwed down with stainless pan head machine screws through rubber washers, then the lid, then the gasket, then into collapsible rubber inserts with brass threads on the end which hang below the deck through 3/16 holes, 45 cents apiece at the local hardware store, and the holes will work with the DZUS whenever I get them. I dont go in the hatch too often, just a flat water day paddler.
