A good-tracking boat need not be hard to turn, you just need to know the technique of putting the boat up on edge a bit to carve the turn. Or put it completely up on edge, shear to the sky, and you can actually turn on a dime. I don't know how to do this yet, but I have Jay Babina's video and he lays down in the water and sculls the Outer Island in a circle.

True, the Greenlanders didn't play in rock gardens. Neither do most of the rest of us.

The inuits did add small rub strips/keels onto the outer skin of some of their kayaks, but generally it's hull shape that determines tracking characteristics. Their kayaks were definitely designed with hunting in big, open water in mind, not recreation. It is my belief that the majority of us require kayaks that get us efficiently from point A to point B, in meandering curves or relatively straight courses, but that few really require that turn-on-a-dime ability.
