When glassing the inside of the coaming, should I be wrapping the glass onto the underside of the deck? Seems like this could be tough unless I flip the boat and sit under the cockpit to glass it. How do you all do it?
Also, how many layers of glass have you used on the inside of the coaming vs. the outside of the coaming - we ended up going with 2 layers of 4 oz. on the outside with the front and rear part of the coaming reinforced with a third layer of 4 oz. for extra strength in terms of get the skirt on and off, etc. The plan is for 2 layers on the inside.
FWIW, we just glassed the outside of the coaming last night. The final pattern is two 3/4" purpleheart strips then one 3/4" birch strips then on and on..... It looks real nice under the wet glass. I'll check out the cured look tonight. Hope to have the hull scraped and fill coated by early next week. She's almost done and my SO is psyched.
Thanks for any help, pete czerpak albany, NY
